Accounting-Public (M.B.A.)

The Accounting M.B.A. program prepares students to work in various accounting and related fields and also provides students the opportunity to take additional coursework required for certification exams. Graduate level accounting courses may require undergraduate accounting prerequisites to have been completed; the specific prerequisites required will depend on the graduate accounting courses selected.

M.B.A. Prerequisite Sequence


There are two options to satisfying the Prerequisite Sequence. Option 1 are two graduate courses that can be taken at Brenau. Option 2 are a series of undergraduate courses which could have been taken at Brenau, or transferred in as appropriate undergraduate classes from a regionally accredited university. For either option, the class must be taken within the last 5 years with a minimum grade of B. Students may use option 1 for one course and option 2 for the other.

M.B.A. Introduction Sequence (6 hours)


To enhance their success in the program, students are required to take the following introduction sequence. All MBA students must pass all introduction sequence courses before moving into the core or global sequence.

Accounting Foundation Courses


For the MBA (Public Accounting Concentration), the following undergraduate prerequisite courses are required:

M.B.A. Core Curriculum (21 hours)


The M.B.A. curriculum focuses on the key management, economics, financial, marketing, accounting and leadership principles needed in an advanced program of study in business. Students taking core classes can expect a strong emphasis of theoretical methods combined with pragmatic techniques.

Accounting Concentration (15 hours)


 Choose one of the accounting concentrations below.

Public Accounting


The Public Accounting concentration is designed for students who intend to take the CPA exam and practice in public accounting. Employment opportunities include auditing and other attest engagements, taxation, forensic accounting and client consulting. Credentials related to this concentration are the Certified Public Accounting (CPA), Charted Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Management Accounting


The Management Accounting concentration is designed for students who want to practice in the area of management accounting. Employment opportunities include Chief Financial Officer (CFO), controller, accounting manager and small business accounting. Credentials related to this concentration are Certified Management Accounting (CMA) and Chartered Global management Accountant (CGMA).
