Secondary Education (M.A.T.)

The completion of the requirements for the M.A.T. will result in certification at the secondary level (Grades 6-12). The majors which will be considered for Brenau’s M.A.T. are biology, chemistry, English, history or related social science, mathematics, and physics (P-12). In addition to all the course requirements, students must pass the Teaching Field Content Exams for academic content area (GACE) prior to student teaching or internship.

* This symbol is part of the title of the course as this course is applicable to the Liberal Education curriculum as well.

§ = This course required for admission to Teacher Education.

¥ = Course contains field experience.

Note: All coursework MUST be completed before permission is granted to apply for an internship.

Clinical Experience


A total of 9-12 hours of clinical experience is required. Choose student teaching course (9 hours) for one semester or the internship experience (12 hours) over several semesters.

Field Experience: Will have field experience in designated courses. Those courses noted with the symbol ¥.

Total Semester Hours Required for Degree: 45 - 48

The difference in hours is dependent upon the clinical experience the student chooses.
