NG 314 - Community Health Nursing: Well Community

This course introduces the concept of community health nursing by providing students with academic background, technical skills and field experience to facilitate health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention of communities. The course focuses on care of the community as client. Emphasis is on the role of the nurse in addressing the preventative health needs of well populations. Current trends in health care delivery and community resources are examined. Students analyze the sociocultural, political, economic, ethical, and environmental factors that can influence community and global health. Students examine bio-physiological, social and environmental factors which could influence population health/health-behaviors and community health approaches. Trends in health care delivery and community resources are examined. Special emphasis is placed on the Geriatric population and maintenance & enhancement of their health wherever they are found in the community. Integrated into this course is an opportunity to develop the basis for scholarly writing using APA style. Corequisite(s): NG 314C
