MG 729 - Management and Organizational Behavior

(3)
Management is the foundation of the study of business organizations. This course focuses on understanding the social and control actions that constitute the process of organization. The course introduces the M.B.A. student to a specific framework for the analytic study of theories of individual and organizational behavior and reviews the processes of perception, judgment, attribution, choice, and decision-making. Since organizational behavior occurs largely in social settings, the course’s micro perceptive introduces the social psychological effects on individual behavior with regard to motivation, performance, and group processes. Attention is given to the effects of social contexts on information processing and inference with regard to such topics as performance evaluation, appraisal, and job satisfaction. Micro frameworks of group behavior are applied to topics such as leadership, managerial risk-taking and change processes. The course’s macro perspective focuses on higher analytical levels of the organization’s design, structure and culture, its industry’s structure, and its societal environments. Prerequisite(s): BA 506
