The course will focus on both the fundamental principles and techniques of molecular biology. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of nucleic acid structure, molecular genetics and the biochemistry of transcription and protein synthesis. Based on this foundation students will then explore mechanisms of gene regulation in virus, prokaryotes, and eukaryotes. Methods of functional cloning will be discussed. Each lecture will directly relate molecular biology concepts with the latest laboratory techniques. The topics covered in lecture will also coordinate with each laboratory exercise.
