Dr. Ann Demling, chair

Disciplines and Degrees Offered  The theatre program offers majors in: Theatre (B.A.) , Theatre Arts (B.F.A.)  (emphasis in musical theatre) and Theatre Design and Technology (B.F.A.) . A Theatre Minor  is also available.

Students should consult the General Academic Plan  section of this Catalog to determine which majors are available in the Women’s College or Evening and Weekend Studies of Brenau University. Not all majors are offered at all Brenau locations.

Purpose  The overall goal of the theatre program is to create educated and aware people who have a clear view of themselves and a broad awareness of the world. Students are encouraged to apply their basic theatre skills to other fields. Faculty advisers work closely with each student to develop a program that best suits the individual’s needs.

The theatre major includes both academic classroom training and valuable practical experience in all aspects of production. Major productions are staged with the Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA), a professional theatre company that incorporates student, faculty and community talent. Performances take place at Pearce Auditorium, the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts on the Brenau campus and the Ed Cabell Theatre at Gainesville State College. Laboratory productions are staged in Brenau’s Black Box Theatre and at Gainesville State College. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to off-campus facilities.

Theatre majors are required to participate in the mainstage productions. Students must maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA to retain eligibility for participation in the production program.
