Career Opportunities The B.F.A. in musical theatre allows students with a combined interest in theatre, music and dance to study in a program that will help them find a market for these skills. Students with a background in musical theatre can find many employment opportunities in summer stock, repertory, opera and children’s theatre companies, or in any other regular theatre group that may periodically do musicals.
Course of Study The musical theatre emphasis not only includes classroom academic training, but also valuable practical experience in all aspects of production. A mainstage musical is produced once or twice a year by the Gainesville Theatre Alliance, a professional theatre company that incorporates student and faculty talent in its productions. In addition, the student may become involved with the Gainesville Ballet Company or in opera workshops.
In addition to the requirements listed below, students are reminded that all majors will demonstrate oral and written communication competency within the context of specified writing and/or speech intensive courses in the major. The B.F.A. in theatre arts with a musical theatre emphasis shall consist of 120 semester hours.
