PT 934 - Acute Care and Complex Medical Management

(3)
The primary goal of this course is to prepare the student to recognize the impact of primary systemic diseases on the patient, and how the presence of these disease states will affect clinical decision-making. We will review the underlying pathology and clinical manifestations of the more common disorders of each system, and discuss their relevance during physical therapy evaluation and intervention. The content is presented in sections according to body systems using several methods including lecture, multimedia resources, team-based learning activities and in-class case-based learning activities. Emphasis on the acute and critical care environment and role of physical therapy in that environment will facilitate learning about the acute pathological conditions and the role of physical
therapy in patient management.
