This course is aimed at developing learners’ listening and speaking skills at an academic and discipline-specific level. The focus of the course is to develop learners’ ability to understand and communicate in English in an American university setting. In addition, learners will develop intercultural competence through activities and tasks designed for developing learners’ pragmatic competence-that is, ways of understanding and appropriately communicating with native speakers in various settings. The focus of this level is academic English, as a prerequisite for the development of field-specific English.
