This course is aimed at developing learners’ skills of listening and speaking at the advanced level. The focus of this course is to develop learners’ ability to listen to and understand a range of longer, academic lectures and discussions as well as non-academic talks and exchanges on familiar and unfamiliar topics. Also, learners will develop the skills to demonstrate active listening, deduce speaker’s tone, attitude, and intentions, and distinguish between literal and implied meanings in informal discussions, lectures and conversations on familiar topics. Further, learners will develop the ability to present structured arguments on a range of academic topics related to their interest and field, express their opinion with supported evidence, and speak with ease in informal exchanges with grammatical accuracy and complexity.
