This course is aimed at developing learners’ skills of listening and speaking at the intermediate level. The focus of the course is to develop learners’ ability to understand and communicate in English in various settings on familiar and unfamiliar topics. Learners will develop the skills to infer speaker intentions, deduce speaker tone and attitude and determine cause and effect in a range of non-academic exchanges, discussions, and talks. In addition, learners will develop intercultural competence through activities and tasks designed for developing learners’ pragmatic competence-that is, ways of understanding and appropriately communicating with native speakers in various settings.
