This course is aimed at developing learners’ basic skills in listening and speaking at the beginner level. The focus of the course is to develop learners’ ability to become familiar with spoken English at the word, phrase, and simple sentence level. Learners will develop their comprehension at the sentence level where they can become familiar with the basic word order. They will be exposed to a variety of descriptive and narrative input and will be trained to speak in these two genres. The focus of this level is general English, as a prerequisite for the development of academic English.
