Pathway Program

The Pathway Program serves as a way for students to receive English support while taking 3-12 credit-bearing hours from the Brenau Undergraduate LE catalog. Students take an appropriate amount of undergraduate credit-bearing courses for their individual needs, and the rest of the 18+ instructional hours needed to retain an F-1 visa are filled with non-credit bearing English Pathway courses. The Pathway courses are scheduled around the Brenau classes the student is registered to take. This provides students with the opportunity to continue building their academic confidence and acclimate to the American university culture most successfully. Upon successful completion of the Pathway Program, students will be fully admitted to a Brenau undergraduate degree without being required to pass a standardized English proficiency test (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo), as required by Federal regulation (SEVP Policy Guidance S7.2 Pathway Programs for Reasons of English Proficiency). The program is for students who intend to begin academic studies at Brenau University immediately after, and does not provide admission to other universities.

Program Admittance

To be admitted to the Pathway Program, students must complete the IEP with a grade in the Advanced level of 80% or better or receive an English proficiency test score within 15% of the minimum undergraduate or graduate  admission criteria.  Alternatively, if a student has met the minimum proficiency requirements for full admission into a university degree program, they may also choose to enroll in the Pathway Program in order to gain additional language support. This is in addition to the IEP admission requirements: be at least 17 years of age, be willing to attend all classes and complete all assignments, have a minimum of a high school education, and provide official college or university transcripts, if applicable.

Program Completion

To complete the Pathway Program successfully, students must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 in the credit-bearing classes taken, in addition to 80% or better in their Pathway courses.

Courses offered in the Pathway Program

Pathway courses can be taken for up to 2 semesters before matriculation into the university. The student can matriculate into the university after one semester if they meet the criteria indicated above for program completion.
