PA 616 - Introduction of Counseling and Psychiatry (3) This course includes the theoretical framework for counselling and psychiatry. Course covers topics such as psychological growth and development, psychiatric diagnoses, the medical considerations for various vulnerable populations as it relates to social determinants of health, the psychological bases of drug and alcohol abuse, the dynamics of psychosomatic problems, the role of culture in self-concepts, and family attitudes toward mental illness. The course also addresses the basic tenets of counselling skills and practices. Note(s) Must be admitted to PA program.
