PA 647 - Foundations of Surgery and Emergency Medicine (5) The course covers major and minor surgical intervention management in ambulatory and inpatient settings emphasizing indications for surgical intervention and pre-operative, intra-operative, and post- operative care. Presents the principles of life-support techniques and instructs students in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques including BLS and ACLS. The course also addresses initial management of acute medical and traumatic conditions in hospital and prehospital situations including dysrhythmia identification and treatment and cardiac arrest. The course includes techniques associated with airway management, hemodynamic monitoring and management, hypovolemic states and management, multi-organ system failure, nutritional support and metabolic management of the ICU patient.
