OL 212 - Power and Leadership (3) In this course, students will identify influences of power in the organization. This course examines the issues of power, influence, and politics within organizations, which includes effective leader and follower strategies and power and influence tactics, and their effects on employee motivation. Students examine the role of leadership and human behaviors related to power issues encountered in organizations and consider the positive and negative outcomes of the influence of power from the perspectives of leader, manager, and team member. We also examine individual approaches; identify, analyze, and critique their own political and negotiating styles; and review gender communication variances. The student will also develop strategies for improving organizational relationships, responding to political settings, and increasing their organizational influence. Finally, the student will examine emerging issues in leadership within a fast-paced, global business environment.
