This is an advanced doctoral level course in clinical interviewing that will focus on further developing, enhancing, and increasing current knowledge and skills needed to interview and assess various populations. Students will explore and assess major interview models and techniques and become cognizant of multicultural issues. Utilizing a best practice model,
students will develop the ability to tailor their own unique skills in working with all populations and become proficient in multicultural competencies. Course will also address challenges presented by at risk populations, the need and process for mandatory reporting, and challenges in working with underserved populations. The course includes a blend of lecture, skill
demonstration, and role play. Rationale: It is of the utmost importance that professionals offering therapeutic services be prepared to assess and accurately diagnose psychological disorders. Furthermore, professionals offering therapeutic services must have knowledge of different interview/assessment models and techniques needed to make accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
