SE 896 - Leadership Seminar in Special Education (3) This course will provide an in-depth study of and an exploration into the issues and administrative processes associated with leadership roles in special education. Topics to be synthesized and analyzed include but are not limited to the following: a) special education attrition and shortages; b) implementing inclusion and co-teaching in a school and/or school system effectively; c) understanding and meeting requirements of statutes set forth in the new dyslexia laws; d) handling disputes with teachers, parents, and administrators in timely, fair, and effective ways; and e) understanding and implementing positive behavior supports for students with special needs in a school or a district. Students will complete a culminating project concerning how to resolve an issue in an area of interest addressed in the course.
