PY 925 - Neuropsychological Evaluation in Mental Health (3) This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the essential conceptualizations and methodologies utilized in the neuropsychological assessment of both children and adults. Students will learn to incorporate the various information processing models of neuropsychological assessment and will understand the quantitative and qualitative interpretation aspects of exam administration that are most salient to diagnostic hypothesis generation and differential diagnostic conclusions. Advanced principles of macroanatomy and microanatomy of the CNS will be thoroughly reviewed with a goal of understanding specific neurodevelopmental and neurologic disorders. Important diagnostic and interpretation considerations will be illustrated through the review of case presentation materials. Students will also learn report writing skills designed to convey neuropsychological assessment findings in a variety of written formats in order to efficiently communicate with clients, parents of clients, and other medical and psychological service professionals. Course emphasis will focus on effective case conceptualization and an understanding of a variety of neuropsychological profiles presented by clients. In addition, in combination with an emphasis on accurate diagnostic conclusions students in this course will learn the most efficacious peer reviewed treatment methodologies important in a clinical practice.
